The sound quality is completely dependent on HOW you set up your drivers and WHAT media player you decide to use.
The Axiom, too many cooks spoil the broth, well same here..it is very important to make sure ALL the "equalizer" functions are shut off and then only use one.
24bit playback is possible only with using WASAPI or ASIO4ALL driver to bypass Windows. Vista and Windows 7 have WASAPI..but that is very new and there are very few WASAPI drivers right now.

Best media players fro 24 bit audio: Foobar2000( very clean), Winamp( tends to hiss) and Windows Media Player( there is some exaggeration and distortion)
Best 16 bit playback with very little "sound colour"
    MediaMonkey , iTunes and SongBird.
Bottom line, make sure "everyone is speaking the same language, Windows/Drivers/Media Player...it can be tricky.Once you figure that out the results are superb.
In the reviews of this card , you will see it is those who have an understanding of working audio in a Windows environment get the best results.
As the say the hardware id only as good as the software made for it.
The driver for Windows 7 64 lack depth, there will need to be another revision of that one and Winamp as well as Media Monkey need to step to the plate and make their own 24bit playback drivers. We are at a point now where "audiophiles" are using there PC's as a legitimate component of their audio system
